September is the month of rice and paella. The time has come to harvest this grass and September 20th is the International Paella Day, a date that was chosen in 2021 when UNESCO declared paella as an Intangible Cultural Asset, actions that help keep the tradition alive and thus preserve it for future generations at a national and international level. The Tancat de l´Estell is a privileged enclave to get to know in depth what is defined as Rice Culture, a chapter of agricultural and gastronomic traditions in which Arroz Tartana has been promoting its communication. There, surrounded by rice fields, are the original facilities, already centuries old, the old eras and drying warehouses, the silos and mills with which the fruit of the plant is transformed into grains ready for sale. The select group of chefs and restaurateurs participating in the publication 50 Top Paellas of Las Provincias attended the event willing to learn about aspects of rice cultivation, its varieties and also to enjoy paella at the table. Juan Valero, manager of Arroz Tartana, orchestrated the visit and the tempo of the paella tasting.
